- Los días 11 y 12 de diciembre de 2018, se convocó una conferencia de la ONU en Marrakech para firmar el protocolo para un pacto global destinado a fortalecer las bases de la migración como un fenómeno global.
Según la ONU, este pacto se trata de "aprovechar los beneficios de la migración y proteger a los inmigrantes indocumentados".
El "Pacto Mundial para la Migración Segura, Ordenada y Regular" es un acuerdo negociado intergubernamentalmente firmado por todos los países miembros de la ONU, excepto los Estados Unidos de América.
Los siguientes países RECHAZARON el acuerdo: República Dominicana, Israel, Estados Unidos, Italia, República Checa, Hungría, Bulgaria, Austria, Estonia, Chile y Australia.
Reacciones al pacto de la ONU sobre migración
El representante local en República Dominicana para las migraciones, Sr. Jorge Baca, lamentó la decisión del gobierno dominicano de no firmar el pacto para las migraciones, alegando que el pacto no fue estudiado en profundidad por los partidos políticos o los ciudadanos. Agregó que: "en la República Dominicana se hicieron conclusiones erróneas porque no fue estudiada por todas las partes y se llegaron a conclusiones que, en nuestra opinión, están fuera del espíritu del Pacto".

El pacto mundial comprende 23 objetivos para gestionar mejor la migración a nivel local, nacional, regional y global.
El acuerdo enfatiza que todos los migrantes tienen derecho a los derechos humanos universales y aspira a eliminar todas las formas de discriminación, incluido el racismo, la xenofobia y la intolerancia contra los migrantes y sus familias.
El pacto fue acordado por los 193 miembros, excepto los Estados Unidos, en julio. Pero en la ceremonia para adoptar el texto el 10 de diciembre, solo 164 países lo adoptaron formalmente.

– On December 11 and 12, 2018, a UN conference was convened in Marrakesh to sign the protocol for a global pact aimed at strengthening the bases for migration as a global phenomenon.
According to the UN, this pact is about “taking advantage of the benefits of migration and protecting undocumented immigrants.”
The “Global Compact for Safe, Ordered and Regular Migration” is an intergovernmentally negotiated agreement signed by all member countries of the UN, except the United States of America.
The following countries REJECTED the agreement: Dominican Republic, Israel, United States, Italy, Czech Republic, Hungary, Bulgaria, Austria, Estonia, Chile, and Australia.
Reactions to the UN pact on migration
The local representative in the Dominican Republic for migrations, Mr. Jorge Baca, lamented the decision of the Dominican government not to sign the pact for migrations, alleging that the pact was not studied in depth by political parties or citizens. He added that: “in the Dominican Republic erroneous conclusions were made because it was not studied by all the parties and conclusions were reached that are, in our opinion, outside the spirit of the Pact.”
